Blue is the light at the threshold between day and night. The colour dominated Andrea Brandão’s exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, marking the end of her residency. Her explorations of light overflow into the catalogue, a book that tries to capture, on paper, what light does in the space.

Uncertain Image documents the research and work produced by Andrea Brandão during her residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. Brandão’s practice spans installation, performance, and photography, returning consistently to questions of presence, time, movement, and the body in space.
The catalogue is structured in three sections: image, text, image. The outer sections are printed on thick coated stock, dense, opaque, photographic. The middle section, carrying essays and a dialogue between the artist and curator, shifts to almost translucent uncoated paper: coated and uncoated paper absorb and reflect light differently, they feel different to the touch. Lighter, more provisional.
Everything that is not an image is printed in a single blue Pantone, the same blue that saturated the gallery, pulled directly from the photographs.
Uncertain Image encapsulates Andrea Brandão’s ongoing investigation into the ephemeral and elusive nature of imagery, offering viewers a deeper insight into the artist’s creative process and the nuances of her visual language.
