Design of a small publication for the site-specific installation by Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata for MAAT’s Oval Gallery.

The publication is a 12 page unbound brochure, folded in the middle. Each spread grows in size, simulating the effect suggested by the exhibition’s curatorial concept and title – that of the contents extrapolating its limits and boundaries.

The state of impermanence of the installation is replicated in the publication via the lack of binding. The spreads work both independently or together, giving the assemblage a temporary-only configuration. The object feels purposely loose and slightly uncomfortable in the hand.
