Visual identity for a poster series promoting the artistic program Terra na Orelha do Mar (Land in Sea’s Ear), by the cultural collective The Beekeepers, in Portugal’s south.
The project is deeply connected to the Castro Marim marshland and the Guadiana Bay, focusing on the region’s unique landscape and indigenous flora and fauna. Through artistic residencies, workshops, and roundtable discussions, it encouraged dialogue on the intricate relationship between biodiversity, agricultural practices, and ecological dynamics in this southern Portuguese periphery. Additionally, it addressed the pressing issue of territory exhaustion due to tourism, while also emphasising the importance of local communities, informal networks, and traditional knowledge.
The project title, inspired by the land’s configuration and the resonant sound of a conch shell held against one’s ear, symbolises the resonance between people, nature, and sound. The project’s identity visually synthesises this connection, using textures sourced from the territory’s natural and human-made elements, alongside a specific color palette developed from on-site research.
